Cannon Cliff forms the eastern flank of Cannon Mountain, and rock climbers frequently scale the mile-long face. The prominent fold toward the left side of the cliff is the Whitney-Gilman Ridge, one of the most celebrated routes of New Hampshire climbing.

  • Though you may not think a beach is a beach without sand...this view simply makes me think of cool ocean breezes and the sound of waves.
  • Spring beauty on Perch Pond, and the treat of a completely calm, foggy morning. The pond was mostly free of ice, but the contrast between opaque frozen and startlingly clear liquid water was so, so good.<br /> <br /> I stayed for almost an hour, watching the fog roll in and out, listening to a pair of ravens cavort over the hills, and trying (unsuccessfully) to sneak up on a common merganser, only to have it slip deftly under the ice.<br /> <br /> Life couldn't be better on a morning like this.
  • Playing games with perception and reality on Welch Mountain; what appears to be a pond is actually a small puddle of snowmelt on the rock ledge, reflecting the Tripyramids and Sandwich Dome.
  • A nearly-full moon shrouded in winter clouds from the summit of Mt. Livermore.
  • East Pond is a gem in the heart of the White Mountains. An easy hike brings you to this warm, amazingly-clear pond ringed by mountains, where damselflies and dragonflies swoop in the breezes.
  • Lonesome Lake is transformed into a portal to winter; the combination of not-quite-frozen water and fiery peaks (the Franconia Ridge) was, frankly, mesmerizing.
  • Mid-November alpenglow show on Mount Washington. These fireworks, like most, were short-lived: 10 minutes at most. But whoever says that winter is totally 'blah' has certainly never seen this!
  • An autumn sonnet in the mountains. Ellsworth, NH.
  • The Bond cirque as viewed from an overlook just below the summit of Bondcliff--perhaps one of the most stunning views in the White Mountains. If you look closely at the top right of the photo, you'll notice a tiny person standing on the Bondcliff ledges. <br /> <br /> Yes, it's that huge a view.
  • A bowl of sky envelops Squam Lake and Red Hill.
  • A sunrise scene, starring the Tripyramids, Sleepers, Sandwich Dome, and foreground hills of Campton.
