Off Kilter...

So a few weekends ago, I made a trek up to Fletcher Cascade, near Waterville Valley, to play with waterfalls. For some reason, I decided to bring my "big girl" tripod (you know...those big jobs with the extendable legs and whatnot). As I left the house, I thought, "I should throw my Gorillapod in, just in case." True to self, I forgot halfway out the door.

Those of you who have seen me in photographic action are well aware that I'm a dedicated minimalist, and also way into the low-angle view, so this was kind of a Big Deal.

Fast forward to the falls. I'm bumbling with this big old (very dusty!) tripod, taking a few photos...and feeling disappointed with every one. Pretty soon, I give up, lean it against a tree, and crouch on a rock so that I could get down...way down...to play with the reflections of the trees in the water that I just...couldn't...see from "way up there." I took this photo with my camera perched about an inch above the surface of the water.

What can I say? It works.
